Today I am doing a little housecleaning and am washing my bed-covers. I have a a quilt-like feather cover that goes under my sheets and over the mattress. I looked for tags but there were none. I’m pretty sure it can machine-wash but I was wondering what cycle and for how long to wash it.

Do I need to take it to a laundromat where they have giant machines, or take it to a dry cleaner? I don’t have tons of money just to get this quilt cleaned, but it does need to get clean somehow.

My grandmother gave me a handmade quilt that is old but in very good shape. The problem is that it has an odor from being stored for so long. I’m anxious to put it on our guest bed but I don’t want to damage it by washing it. I have tried airing it out for a couple of days and then put it in the dryer on a no heat, air only setting with a dryer sheet. Neither helped. Any suggestions?

It was a donated blanket that my daughter received when she was in the NICU. I don’t want to ruin it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

This is a double wedding ring quilt, hand sewn and about 30 years old.
